What is confidence building?
Low self-esteem and lack of self confidence is generally understood as having a low opinion of yourself and/or self-doubt. Lack of self confidence is an experience we can all face either periodically, in response to specific events or over the long term during our lives. Some of the common thoughts associated with low self confidence are self-criticism, self-blame, self-doubt, discounting praise and focusing on mistakes and weaknesses. There are also some common feelings associated with low self confidence such as sadness, anxiety, guilt, shame, frustration or anger.
What can cause it?
More often than not low self-esteem is related to experience from our past. As we grow up one of the ways that we come to understand ourselves is based on how other people treat us. Experiences that can, in part, go on to form part of our self belief system. These experiences don’t have to occur in childhood powerful, possibly traumatic, experiences in adulthood can have a similar affect.
What can I do about it?
We also all have a variety of differing ways to cope, mask and lift our self-esteem. What is essential to restoring self-esteem is acknowledging that these beliefs are not facts and can therefore be changed (the My Life Gym confidence building (confidence coaching) will help you in this). So that in conjunction with developing some positive, supportive coping strategies we can go on to live far more productive and fulfilling lives.
